In saline soils, banana suffered from salt injury with the external symptoms. The caroteniod content was decreased in all the treated plants except in control. In all the NaCl treated plants the chlorophyll pigments was significantly reduced. In abscissic acid(ABA), treated plants chlorophyll content was significantly increased. Membrane Stability Index(MSI) was decreased when the salt stress period increased. In case of Cholorophyll Stability Index(CSI) and Membrane Stability Index(MSI), the butylated hydroxyl toluene(BHT) increased over the other chemicals treated in NaCl stress, where as in acetyl salicylic acid (ASA) increased MSI only. The ASA capable of inducing more ascorbic acid production in more NaCl stressed plants. Peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities were decreased significantly over the period of stress increases. In BHT treated salt stressed plants observed significantly higher nitrate redcutase activity. The persent investigation showed that the abscissic acid(ABA), acetyl salicylic acid (ASA) and butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT) have the potential to reverse the effect of salinity in Grandnain banana plants.

Milk from 24 Nili Ravi buffaloes were collected on fortnight basis from Tarir Dairy Farm, Dhanola on Sargodha Road, Faisalabad. Data obtained for each attribute was subjected to statistical analysis. Oxytocin administration to buffaloes milk resulted in increased pH, proteins, lactose and solid-not-fat and decreased in fat percent as compared to normal animals. Alkaline phosphotase, acid phosphotase, lactoperoxidase activity, and thiocyanate were high in oxytocin treated while lipase activity was low in buffaloes. Caprylic acid(C8), capric acid (C10), myristic acid (C14), palmitic (C16) were high while butyric acid (C4), caproic acid (C6), lauric acid (C12), steric acid (C18), oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2) were significantly low in oxytocin treated buffalo. Vitamins (A, D, E and C) were high in oxytocin treated buffaloes as compared to control. Milk sodium, phosphorus and copper were high while low in potassium, iron and zinc in experimental group. From this study it is concluded that regular use of oxytocin injections do alter the milk composition which could have a promising effect on the milk value added products to effect the human health.

Kidney stones is a common and ancient disease. Yet, many questions concerning their etiology, treatment, and prevention are still open. The Harnstein-Symposien Bonn-Wien is an organization designed to bring together scientists from the various fields relevant to urolithiasis: medicine, urology, biochemistry, etc. In the framework of this organiza tion an International Workshop was held in Tel Aviv on December 10 and 11 1980 to discuss the various aspects of uric acid lithiasis. Uric acid stones have been known to mankind for thousands of years. Urate-contain ing stones were found in Egyptian mummies and in a three-thousand-year old mummy from Arizona. Evidently, with the constant increase in standard of living, associated with increased amount of purine intake, which we are facing in this century, the fre quency of uric acid lithiasis is on the increase. In the second half of this century, signi ficant progress has been made in the knowledge of the mechanisms of uric acid over production, as well as in the understanding of the etiology, prevention, and tretament of uric acid stones. As a result, uric acid lithiasis can be prevented and when present it can be treated well. Moreover most uric acid stones can be dissolved in vivo. This workshop included reviews from some of the leading authorities on the various aspects of uric acid metabolism in man: biochemistry, pathology, renal handling, nutri tion, etc. , and these reviews and results of new studies are presented here.

Present study deals with the removal of Congo red through adsorption from its aqueous solution on Raphanus sativus peel. The basic purpose of this study is to evaluate low cost adsorbent for dye removal. Being carcinogen Congo red is hazardous and toxic. Batch wise removal were executed in order to estimate the effects of a various experimental parameters like Mesh size, adsorbent dose, contact time, temperature, agitation speed and pH. Adsorbent was treated with 0.1M HCl and 0.1M NaOH. Similar experimental parameters were performed for these acid and base treated adsorbents. Comparative study revealed that acid treated is the adsorbent. However, pH factor showed maximum percentage of adsorption in U.T.B. Langmuir and Freundlich Isothermal model were used to explain the equilibrium for these adsorption processes. Study revealed that adsorption followed Langmuir model for A.T.B and B.T.B whereas freundlich model for U.T.B. The adsorption capacity was 0.06, 0.24 and 0.12 mg/g for untreated, acid and base treated respectively. The maximum capacity observed for A.T.B in Langmuir isotherm. So, acid treated Raphanus Sativus peel are potential adsorbents for Congo red removal.
